LAKEVIEW and 66...."A GREAT PLACE"!!!!

4/22/2012

Greetings to the Spartans Nation!

As this weekend comes to an end, and I prepare for hopefully a nice week of weather for our classes, I want to first apologize for the tardiness of my blog spots!!!! I realize it has been WAY too long since I last wrote, and will hopefully not let this happen the last months of school!!

Much has taken place since my last writing, so here we go.............

BOYS VARSITY BASKETBALL finished what I feel was a very successful season. Even though the final won / loss record was not what our entire club would have liked, we did realize two of our three goals.....improve as individual players, and prepare for the mental phase of high school competition!!!!!!! I truly believe that all members of our club will compete in some type of competition at the high school level. If the hard work that was demonstrated during our season continues during high school, "our guys will be alright"!!!!!!!!!

In recalling our season, I would like to personally say "THANK YOU" to so many people who worked behind the scenes to make our Boys "Pack-The-Place" a very special day during my time in 66. For those who were not in attendance, my exit from the lockerroom at halftime was meet by a surprising moment at which timne Mr. Windsor, and Mr. Ken Rehr (Gower Coach) presented me with a framed jersey that I will forever cherish!!!!! In addition, cheerleaders and fans sported pictures and a banner that was very touching!!!! Once again.......THANK YOU!!!!!!!

Unfortunately, I was forced to miss twelve days of school before Spring Break, as the doctors at Rush helped "rebuild me for the future". My thanks go out to Mrs. Froats(my sub), as well as Miss Nyhlen and Coach Dvorak for making things run smoothly in my absence!

Our classes have finished Pickleball, Ping Pong, and Bags, and have now moved on to Badminton and Soccer, something the students truly enjoy participating in! Hopefully the weather will get a little warmer so all classes may go outside for the remaining days of the year!

On a final note, I would like to personally congratulate all members of the District 66 community who were involved in some form of the process to help select the new superintendent of schools. Much time and effort went into this procedure, with many grest candidates being evaluated. As the number was reduced to two, I had the pleasure of meeting both as they toured Lakeview Jr. High earlier this month. TOMORROW evening (April 23rd), the new superintendent will be introduced to the district at a special schoolboard meeting at 7 PM. I encourage all 66 community members to attend, and welcome this candidate and family to our district. UNFORTUNATELY for me, I will be unable to attend due to a previous commitment, but plan to get in touch on Tuesday morning!!

AND FINALLY.........just want to mention that the Cardinals are AGAIN in first place!!!!!! There is a rumor going around that the Redbirds won their 11th world championship in 2011, soon to be 12th in 2012, and so on, as to allow the Cub fans to keep track of how many the Cardinals have won...... :)

Have a great week, and ..............................

SUPER BOWL and SPRING TRAINING.......IT DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS!!!!!!!!!

Hello Spartan Nation!!!!!!!

First off, I would like to personally congratulate Dr. L. Jay Tiede on thirty-nine great years as a member of the District 66 staff. Dr. Tiede has recently announced that 2011-12 would be his final year in 66. Dr. Tiede has served in many capacities during this period....teacher, coach, band director, assistant principal, principal, and finally superintendent. Having been on staff for 38 of these years, I feel I can strongly say that 66 is a better place due to Dr. Tiede's work in all the above capacities. I would like to say "Thank You" for the opportunities Dr. Tiede has given me, and want to wish he and his family the best in the future!!!!!

So much has taken place since our last visit!!! 2012 is rolling along in our Physical Education classes at Lakeview.......7th and 8th grade continues with Basketball and Strength Training, while the 6th graders begin a new rotation of Floor Hockey, Basketball, and Strength Training!!! Our students have returned from Holiday Break with great enthusiasm, making our classes great to work with!!!

Varsity Basketball, Boys and Girls both have gotten off to a respectable start. 17 players compose the Boys squad, and have had a good start in two tournaments and one week of the regular season. On the Girls side, a Consolation Championship in both the Westmont and D.G. Mayor's Tourney have given the Girls a great beginning!!

In continuing on the athletic side, I would like to personally say "Thank You" to Mr. Jennifer Maass and her Varsity cheerleading squad!! During the three days of the Westmont Tournament, these GREAT LADIES (and families) attended all the games, supporting both the Boys and Girls basketball squads from Lakeview!!

AND FINALLY..........HERE ARE SOME VERY IMPORTANT UPCOMING DATES......

Boys and Girls Varsity BBall this week...Tuesday vs. Westview Hills
