THE HOLIDAYS ARE COMING !!!!!!!!!

OUR FINAL WEEK !!!!!!!

Hi again everyone, and welcome to our last week of school before we break for the holidays!!

Our final week will include many activities, highlighted by the outstanding annual 8th grade ballroom dance performance. As Mrs. Liles mentioned in her blog and her e-mail to our 8th grade parents, this Friday afternoon's finale will begin at approximately 1:15 PM, with all parents and relatives of our 8th graders welcome to attend. As mentioned previously, our 8th grade class has done an OUTSTANDING job during the last two weeks! Mrs. Garvey and her two assistants (Kim and Michael) from Celebrity Dance have brought the best out of the Class of '09.

6th and 7th graders continue with their square dance units and are, for the most part, doing quite well. Their final day of dance will be this Thursday (12/18/08), with a written test. Good luck to all!!!

Congratulations goes out to Coach Dvorak and Coach Little for their seasons with the Junior Varsity. Final games (#9 and #10) will be this week (Monday and Tuesday). Good luck to both squads!

Tryouts and final rosters have taken place on both the Boys and Girls Varsity teams!

The Boys Varsity has begun practice, and will continue until they tipoff their season on Sunday; January 4th, participating in the 8th Annual Downers Grove Mayors Classic at Downers Grove North High School! All teams (Lakeview, Jefferson, O'Neill, Eisenhower, Herrick, St. Joe's, St. Mary's, and Our Lady of Peace) are guaranteed two games, with winners moving to the championship games. Lakeview tips off it's first game at Noon in the Downers Grove North Fieldhouse!!! A special "THANKS" goes out to Mrs. Jill Hansen (Ide principal), Coach Dave Dvorak (Dist. 66 AD), and Tom Tiede (Transportation Coordinator) for working out the logistics allowing for our team to practice at Ide due to lack of gym availability at Lakeview!! As Dr. Tiede has said, "Working Together, We Can"!!!!

Members of this years club include John B., Povilas G., James I., Jeff J., Andrew J., Steven K., Vincent L., Tony L., Marty L., Robert M., Joe N., Alex P., Zack P., Kevin R., and Chris W.. Our administrative assistants include Alexa R., Sadie B., Katarina S., Kaylee M., Dan T., Christian T., and Matt T..

Another "THANKS" goes out to our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students who did an outstanding job during the recent candy sale!!! We are all aware of the economic crunch that is taking place! Our students did such an outstanding job, thus allowing District 66 to purchase needed equipment that otherwise would not be able to be purchased! As our teams take the field / floor, please notice how nice they look, thus making them feel first class!

Finally, GOOD LUCK goes out to Zack Bell (LV-'03) as he and his Air Force Falcon teammates prepare for their bowl game vs. the University of Houston Cougars. The Falcons enter the Armed Forces Bowl in Ft. Worth, Texas with a record of 8 and 4. The game will be broadcast on ESPN kicking off at 11 AM on December 31st. ....... HIT HARD !!

Have a great holiday season!!!!!!!

IT'S PROMENADE AND TANGO TIME!!!!!!

December 1, 2008

Hi again Spartan fans,

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving break, and are ready for the roll into the Christmas season! Our students are in the process of starting a new unit (8th grade Ballroom Dancing), while the 7th graders will finish Bowling and Volleyball this week. 7th graders start Square Dancing on Dec. 8th, while the 6th graders will start Square Dancing on Dec. 15th.

Our district has been very fortunate to secure the services of Mrs. Ann Garvey for our Ballroom Dance unit. Ann is the President and Executive Director of Celebrity Dance in Downers Grove, Ill. 2008 marks ....at least... ten years that she has come in to teach our students Ballroom Dancing, culminated by a ballroom formal dance on Friday; December 19th; 1 PM; Lakeview gym. This 8th grade event is co-sponsored by the Lakeview P.T.O. and Lakeview Jr. High School. .................8th grade parents........mark this date on your calendar, grab your camera, and come see what an outstanding job your children can do!!!!!

BOYS VARSITY BASKETBALL TRYOUTS are set for tomorrow (Tues.; Dec. 2) from 3 - 4:30 PM at Lakeview. All candidates must have a current physical on file, as well as a signed parental permission slip acknowledging the team rules and expectations. The boys season tips off on Sunday; January 4th at Downers Grove North High School. The Spartans will be participating in the 6th annual D.G. Mayor's Classic.

On a personal note, I would like to acknowledge one of our former Lakeview student/ athletes who has just completed his senior year of high school soccer at D.G.S.. Michael Mascitti was named "Player-of-the-Year" by the Suburban Life newspaper. This award is made even more special by the fact that Mike had three knee surgeries during the last 24 months. Those of you who know Mike, know that he took this as a challenge, and was justly rewarded for his hard work!! Mike has not decided on a college yet, but rest assured, a soccer school somewhere is going to be fortunate to have this young, top academic student become a member of their team! GOOD LUCK MIKE!!!!

Have a great week, and do drive carefully!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SPARTAN COUNTRY !!!!

HI AGAIN EVERYBODY !!!!!

JUST A QUICK NOTE WITH RANDOM ITEMS AS THIS WEEK COMES TO AN END....

BOWLING AND VOLLEYBALL IS SMOOTHLY ROLLING ALONG WITH CLASS GAMES AND FIELD TRIPS (in bowling) GOING WELL. THE 7TH GRADE WENT TO THE BOLINGBROOK LANES TODAY AND DID AN OUTSTANDING JOB, WITH THE 8TH GRADE ATTENDING TOMORROW.

CONGRATULATIONS TO BOTH BOYS AND GIRLS 7TH GRADE BASKETBALL. EVEN THOUGH THEIR RECORD STANDS AT 1-2, IT IS APPARENT FROM WATCHING COACH LITTLE'S TEAM THAT THEY ARE MAKING HUGE AMOUNTS OF IMPROVEMENT!!!

THE JUNIOR VARSITY STANDS UNDEFEATED AS OF THIS WRITING (NOV. 20), HAVING SCORED A HUGE VICTORY YESTERDAY OVER OLD QUARRY.......AT OLD QUARRY. WAY TO GO COACH DVORAK AND THE JV SPARTANS!!!!

VARSITY BASKETBALL TRYOUTS WILL BE HELD TUESDAY; DECEMBER 2nd; LAKEVIEW OLD GYM; 3 PM - 5 PM; ALL PLAYERS TRYING OUT MUST HAVE AN UP-TO-DATE PHYSICAL!!!!!!

As a final note, I would like to send out a personal congratulations to some Lakeview / Downers Grove South alumni who are finishing the 2008 football seasons shortly. ANDREW SCHULZE (DGS '06) is the starting long and short snapper for the Iowa Hawkeyes, and made the snap for the winning field goal (#65 in the middle of your TV screen) vs. Penn State on November 8th. Penn State came into the game undefeated and ranked 3rd in the B.C.S. at the time.

ZACK BELL (LV..'04; DGS..'08) plays his final regular season game for the United States Air Force Academy (#94) this Saturday vs. T.C.U. (Cable TV ---- Versus; Channel 75; 1:30 PM, C.S.T.) in Ft. Worth. The Falcons enter the game with a 8-3 record, and are headed to a post-season bowl game sometime late in December!

My final recognition goes to SAMUEL CARSON III; starting linebacker at the University of Illinois. Samuel attended Center Cass, entering as a bright-eyed, energetic young man in the Fall of 1991. Attending all the District 66 schools, graduating from Lakeview in 2000, D.G.S. '04, the University of Illinois in '08, and will receive his post graduate degree later next January. Samuel participated in all sports as he progressed through our schools, and has been a credit to his schools over the years. A congratulations goes out as well to his parents, Sam and Gwendolyn.

Have a great week, and........PLAY HARD!!!!

SO MUCH FOR SUMMER WEATHER IN NOVEMBER!!!!!

HELLO SPARTANS!!!

What happened to the nice "Summer Weather" we had briefly last week?????
70's one day to 40's now! I was hoping our P.E. classes would be able to get outside one more week before we were in for the winter, but...........................guess not!!!!

Our P.E classes got off to a great start in volleyball and bowling (with the 6th graders also starting weight training). After days of review, fundamentals, and lead-up games, our classes will be starting actual bowling games later in this week.

As well, our 7th and 8th graders (sorry...6th graders have to wait till next year) are eagerly looking forward to the grade level field trips to the bowling alley later this month! Students in past years have had an outstanding time during their respective trips. I must also say the bowling alley always does a "nice" food business from our hungry students. The student cost for the bowling part of the trip is covered by the student activity fund which is part of the registration fee at the start of the year.

A "Good Luck" goes out to our junior varsity basketball teams as they start their respective seasons tomorrow (Monday; November 10th). Coach Dvorak (Boys) and Coach Little (Girls) have been hard at work with their respective squads.

Have a GREAT WEEK, and ..................."PLAY HARD"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN to all the Spartans!! It is hard to believe that the school year is 1/4 over, and Thanksgiving is just around the corner!

We are about to conclude our Flag Football units in all grades with the start-up of Bowling and Volleyball just around the corner (and don't forget Weight Training in 6th grade!). In looking back, it seems as though our entire school enjoyed Flag Football, with many fun and COMPETITIVE games during class!!!! Nothing like playing a 1st hour game on the "Frozen Tundra" of Lakeview Stadium!!!! Just honk and the geese will move!!

A huge "Way-To-Go" goes out to Mrs. Wagner and her Varsity Girls Volleyball team! After finishing a respectable fifth during the regular season, the Lady Spartans ran the table during the conference tourney, and captured the championship. After defeating regular-season champion Cass in the semis, the Spartans won it all with a win over Westview Hills.

Team members include Krystal B., Kelly C., Jackie C., Danielle C., Brittany D., Alex D., Stephanie H., Marissa J., Kristy L., Caroline P., Kelly S., and Jessica S. Never to be forgotten on a team is the manger, with Kristin K. doing a great job all season.

Have a safe and happy halloween, and...................................PLAY HARD!!!!!!!

WHO WILL BE MR. OCTOBER IN 2008???????

WELCOME SPARTAN FANS!!!!!

As the end of October approaches, tonight marks the start of the World Series. Although the Chicago teams (and the Cardinals) are not there, exciting games are expected. And then '09 Spring Training will be right around the corner!

On the local front, CONGRATULATIONS go out to the Lakeview Football squad, Coach Dvorak, and Coach Novotny. Although Cass rallied in the second half of the deciding game, the Spartans posted a very respectable 4-2 mark and 2nd place in the conference. It is my hope that all the graduating 8th graders continue their football careers in high school, no matter which school they choose to attend!!!!

As football is a topic, I would like to personally congratulate six former Lakeview student/ athletes who will be playing their final regular season football games for the Downers Grove South Mustangs this Friday night (Oct. 24) at Mustang Stadioum vs. the Leyden Eagles.

Seth Carson (31), Anthony Zaffino (40), Marc Goldstein (50), Jeff Schorsch (54), Ryan Pjescich (70), and Matt Lunt (93) will finish four year careers having helped the Mustangs to many memorable moments! In addition, managers Julie Bell and Samantha Lach, and trainer Merril Idiyalil have been valuable assets to the Mustang football program!!!!!

As a side note to this final D.G.S. regular season home game, the D.G.S. marching band will be at a competition in Minneapolis this weekend. Standing in (as they did in '07), "The Marching Spartans" from Lakeview will be performing! They have been working very hard on their songs, and from what I hear and understand, are seiously looking forward to another night at Mustang Stadium! MARCH HARD!!!!

Finally, I would like to say "Thanks" to the many Lakeview student/athletes who are participating in the annual candy sale / fundraiser. Without this activity, the Lakeview P.E. and athletic programs would not be able to continue at the level they have been at of late. This fundraiser helps provide needed funds that would not be available otherwise. These funds help purchase higher quality items that would normally not be purchased due to school budgets! Our students hard work should be commended!! Fortunately our government does not have to sell candy, cookie dough, or "gold cards" to help fund HOMELAND SECURITY!!!!!

Have a Great week, and GO SPARTANS!!!!!!!!

SPARTAN PHYSICAL EDUCATION

HAPPY COLUMBUS DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

As I sit and compose this, it is my hope that all the District 66 family is enjoying a day of relaxation and reloading of energies.

Those 8th graders who attended the Washington trip should be returning tonight with many pleasant memories. This has always been a fun and rewarding trip for those attendees.

LAKEVIEW P.E. classes (7th and 8th grade) have concluded their unit on golf, and had successful outings to the golf course.

7th and 8th grade classes are in their second week of Flag Football, and seem to be enjoying themselves with competitive games. The sportsmanship displayed has been very positive, with the players officiating for themselves. The many years of stressing our "Pillars of Character" appear to be paying off.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish Coach Dvorak and the football Spartans GOOD LUCK in their upcoming game with Cass. Cass defeated the Spartans earlier in the season. Cass enters the game undefeated, while the Spartans have one loss. A Spartan victory moves Lakeview into a tie for the conference championship......HIT HARD!!!!!!!!

Have a great week, and GO SPARTANS!!!!!!!!!!!!

September is OUT.....October is IN!!!!!!

SPARTAN PHYSICAL EDUCATION!!!!!

First off, MANY THANKS to Coach Dvorak and Miss Nyhlen for their classroom help during my days of absences last week. It is comforting to know that your classes will flow smoothly during your absences!! I am feeling better!!

After a brief unit in GOLF, as well as successful field trips for both grade levels, FLAG FOOTBALL is next on the agenda for the 7th and 8th graders. Skill work will be followed by rules coverage, then regular games! ....... Boys will compete against Boys, as well as Girls vs. Girls!!!!! Good Luck!!!!!!!

6th graders will continue their three unit rotate featuring Flag Football, Field Hockey, and Track and Field!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Athletics have always been a part of school life in District 66, with many 66 graduates going on to compete at higher levels.......high school....college. Having been a part of the staff at Downers Grove South, I have seen many of ours succeed in many sports, both boys and girls. Their levels of success have varied. There are always a couple that jump out at you as you look back at their years from kindergarten through high school. I would like to recognize one of these individuals who fits into this category.....................ANTHONY ZAFFINO (Lakeview "05)

Anthony participated in many youth sports as a young man, and always gave his best! As a freshmen, he signed up for football, never missed a practice, and as always worked hard! Much of his playing time came on the "C" team on Monday afternoon in front of a small crowd. Anthony continued to work during the off-season with running and weight-training, while still being the "good team player!" As other players "retired" from the game, Anthony kept working at something he apparently loved!!!

As the 2008 D.G.S. Mustangs varsity football squad moves into the sixth week of their season (3-2; 2-0), Anthony has played a big part in the successes of the squad. His hard work during the off-season has turned into more speed and muscle allowing for DGS to effectively run the football with Anthony as the lead blocker!! If you get to a South game, and #40 comes off the field after a first down or a touchdown, you would think he has done this all his life....there is no "show" or "look at me"!! He acts like he has done it before!!!! He is a credit to not only his mom and dad, but also to 66!!! Congratulations, and ....... HIT HARD!!!

Have a great week, and Good Luck to all our athletes at Lakeview, as well as the White Sox and Cubs!! (Yes, I did say that!!!) Spring Training is only 145 days away for the Cardinals (Feb. 22)!!

SPARTAN P.E.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CUBBIES !!!!!!!!!!!

As the final week of baseball season arrives, I want to take this opportunity to congratulate all the Chicago Cub fans. During the past season, I have needled (good naturedly of course!!) the Cubs on their exploits this season and the last one hundred years. As a Cardinal fan, the rivalry runs deep!! Good luck to the Cubs as they enter the post-season! I know the Cub fans in my household are very excited about the upcoming playoffs!! Hopefully next week, I will have an opportunity to congratulate the White Sox fans as well!!!!!

Our 7th and 8th grade physical education classes at Lakeview have concluded their Track and Field unit, and are beginning Golf this week. On Thursday, the 7th grade will visit Siegfield Troy Golf Course, and have an opportunity to "drive" a bucket of regulation golf balls on the driving range during their P.E. classes. On Friday, September 26th, the 8th grade will attend Siegfield Troy, and have an opportunity to spend three plus periods either playing the nine hole course, or doing mini-golf / driving range.

6th graders will be continuing their three activity grouping of Field Hockey, Track and Field, and Flag Football! Our second rotation of classes starts tomorrow (Sept. 23rd).

GOOD LUCK to all our Lakeview teams during the coming week. Cross-Country runs at home Thursday vs. Butler at 4 PM, Football plays a rematch with Gower on Thuursday at home at 4 PM (Spartan stadium could be a crowded area on Thursday!!!!), while volleyball hosts Lisle on Tuesday and Butler on Thursday!!

One final note........ special mention goes out to Samuel Carson III (Lakeview "OO; DGS 'O4) as prepares for the upcoming Saturday matchup between his #21 ranked Fighting Illini football team and Penn State.......................HIT HARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have a GREAT WEEK!!!!

LAKEVIEW Physical Education (Dodd)

OPEN HOUSE IS COMING UP!!!!!

I look forward to next Tuesday night (Sept. 16) when our faculty at Lakeview has the opportunity to meet and present to all our parents. The night starts at 6:30 when parents of any students new to District 66 have the opportunity to come in early and meet with Mrs. Liles.

At 7:00 PM, the night starts in the "Old Gym" with a greeting and introductions from Mr. Windsor, then it is off to start our students' schedules. During homebase, parents will be given their students schedule, as well as a map of Lakeview and their locker number and combination!

HOPE TO SEE MANY OLD FACES, AS WELL AS OUR NEW ONES!!!!

FOOTBALL NOTES:

CONGRATULATIONS to Coach Dvorak and the '08 Spartans on their 20-8 victory over Gower!!! This is truly a big win for Lakeview!!!!!!!!!!

Twenty-eight former Lakeview student-athletes are members of the Freshmen football squad at Downers Grove South. These gentlemen have helped the "A" and "B" teams get off to a 2-2 start, and have played well!

ARE THE CUBS REALLY GOING TO HANG IN THERE????????????????????

SPARTAN PHYSICAL EDUACTION

WELCOME BACK TO SPARTAN COUNTRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is my hope that all District 66 students and families had a great Summer!!! It seemed like only days between graduation and the beginning of our new school year!!

My Summer was filled with sport camps, baseball games of all levels, swim meets, and an occasional day of relaxation with all the Dodds!! Speaking of baseball, it appears that the beloved Cubs may actually hang-in-there!! What do they say...."Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in a while"!!!! Just teasing......as I know we have many Cub fans, including some at my house, in District 66, and "Good Luck" goes out to all of them!!

The '08-'09 school year has gotten off to one of the smoothest starts in recent memory. Our students have returned from Summer organized and ready to jump into our activities for the year! 7th and 8th grade has started Track and Field, while the 6th graders began with Field Hockey, Track and Field, and Flag Football!!

I would like to take this opportunity to wish the best of luck to all the Lakeview athletes participating in Fall sports. This includes boys and girls Cross Country, girls Volleyball, boys Football, and girls Cheerleading!! As always, our junior high athletes always represent Lakeview in a positive way, while preparing for their opportunities to compete later on in high school!

It is my hope to see many parents at the upcoming Lakeview open house (Tuesday; September 16th). As well, please feel free to stop by and observe your son or daughter in any of our Physical Education classes.

A GREAT YEAR IS WINDING DOWN !!!!!

As mid-May arrives, it is hard to believe that only three weeks are left in the 2007-08 school year! It seems like only yesterday that Lakeview welcomed the Class of 2008!!

Our P.E. classes are continuing with the units of SOFTBALL and FLOOR HOCKEY, as well as SOCCER at the 6th grade level. In addition, our students have recently completed the Spring PRESIDENTIAL FITNESS TESTING events, and should have shared their scores with their parents! These events included 1) situps, 2) pullups, 3) sit and reach, 4) shuttle run, and 5) mile run. Students were awarded grade points for their efforts to improve their mile times from last Fall.

As promised last week, I would like to recognize all the Spring sport teams for their efforts!
Miss Nyhlen finished Girls Softball with a record of 3-5, including a tough tournament game with Jefferson!
Coach Little's Boys Soccer worked very hard with a predominantly underclass roster, finishing 1-6-2!
Mrs. Wilson's Girls Soccer concluded an undefeated season at 9-0, allowing only 3 goals ALL season!!

Listed below are the Boys and Girls Track and Field medalists from the conference meet. Again, my congratulations to Miss Smith and Mr. Kukulski:

GIRLS
Rebecca S., Raven W., Jacqueline T., Erika L., Brittany D., Carly C., Emily F., Kristy L., Erin Q., Jasmine G., Anna B., Maddie C. Meaghan B., Lisa L., Livvi G., and Maddie S.

MID-APRIL AND WINTER WEATHER

WHERE IS THE NICE SPRING WEATHER THAT SHOULD HAVE ARRIVED?????????

Our Physical Eduacation classes are ready to get outside, but this weather is messing us up!!!

Our units of soccer and badminton have been adjusted to fit an inside schedule, and I must say, our students have done a great job!!

7th grade classes are finalizing their two minute Step and Rope routines. Each student has chosen a group to work with, practiced the group routines, and will be graded this week on same!

As with our P.E. classes, Lakeview athletic team schedules have also been subjected to postponements due to the weather! All games / contests have been or will be rescheduled during the coming weeks! Good luck to Mrs. Wagner, Mrs. Wilson, Mr. Little and all the Lakeview squads!!

Congratulations go out to Mr. Tedeschi, Mr. Ohlsen, the Concert Band, and Cadet Band for their performances last Saturday at the Band-O-Rama in Justice, Ill. at Wilkins Jr. High School. The Concert Band received a Superior rating, while the Cadet Band received an Outstanding.

A final mention goes out to Samuel Carson III, Lakeview class of 2000. Samuel begins his final year of competition as a member of the University of Illinois football squad. Samuel had an outstanding scrimmage at middle linebacker last Saturday during the Illini's scrimmage at Lemont High School. The Fighting Illini kickoff their 2008 season on Saturday; August 30th vs. Missouri in St. Louis.

WELCOME BACK !!!!!!!!

APRIL, 2008

WELCOME BACK for our final drive to the end-of-the-year!! It only seems like yesterday when the Class of 2008 arrived in August to begin their ninth year (for most) in District 66.

It is my hope that all of the 66 community enjoyed the nine day break, and were able to re-energize over that period. I know that it was great for me!

Our P.E. classes will finish their grade levels units this week, as we all hope that some nice weather finally arrives so we may go outside..............and the Cardinals can seriously start their pennant drive!!!

GOOD LUCK to our Spring athletic teams as they begin play! Boys and Girls soccer, Girls softball, and Boys volleyball have been working hard in preparation for their competition!!

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Our Physical Education classes are currently involved with Table Tennis and Pickleball units. Singles and doubles tourneys are moving along in all the respective 6th, 7th, and 8th grade classes. In additiion, certain 6th grade classes are also playing wiffleball.

Following Spring Break (3 days and counting), our classes will begin Soccer and Badminton. This schedule will be flexible due to our great midwestern weather.

ATHLETICS

In my last blog, I inadvertently ommited Miss Jennifer Casey and her Varsity cheerleaders for their efforts during our just-completed season. Even though coaches and players are concentrating on the game, it is easy to know when the Spartans cheerleaders are there.
GREAT JOB LADIES!!!!

Tomorrow evening marks the official end to the Winter sports seasons with the annual awards banquet. Cheerleaders and basketball teams will be recognized for their accomplishments this past year, with catering through Carrabas in Woodridge.

Tryouts for our Spring sports are (or will soon be) under way. I would like to take this opportunity to wish our Spring athletes in all sports "GOOD LUCK".

With Spring "supposed" to be here, many peoples thoughts turn to baseball....mine included. In looking at the National League, I find it interesting that the Cubs do not face the Cardinals until May 2nd in St. Louis, and August 8th in Chicago. Which team will be eliminated by their first meeting in May??? Mr. Little, your thoughts???????

A new feature on the "Dodd Blog" is our QUESTION OF THE WEEK"?

"What four famous American leaders (both locally and nationally) are recognized in the new gym at Lakeview"??

Be the first correct E-mail reply to tdodd@ccsd66.org, and be mentioned in next weeks "blog"!!

Have a great week, enjoyable break, and remember to "PLAY HARD"!!!!

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Physical Education classes have finished their 2nd timester units on weight training and basketball, and are now moving on to pickleball, table tennis, and wiffleball (6th grade). As we go deeper into these units, singles and doubles tournaments will take place in our respective P.E. periods.

VARSITY BASKETBALL

Congratulations to our Boys Varsity basketball team following the conclusion of their season last night. Even though their record may not have been what they would have liked, individual improvement was evident with all members of our team. Following a 6-9 conference season, the Spartans defeated Butler 41 - 20 in the first round of the playoffs. Unfortunately the season came to an end with a disappointing defeat at the hands of Eisenhower. With Lakeview sporting a 15-9 halftime lead, the Generals defensive pressure and inside strength forced numerous turnovers leading to a 46-38 Eisenhower victory.

I am very proud of every member of our squad, and know that with off-season hard work, every member of our squad will participate in some type of sport next year in high school. My personal best wishes and good luck go out to all members of this years' team.

On another basketball avenue, congratulations should also go out to Mr. Little and Mr. Kukulski on the outstanding conference season their squad recently concluded. Many big wins and a 4th place regular season finish demonstrates what hard work their ladies put forth.

As a final note, I would like to say "Thanks" to the many people who helped make both our squads very successful. At the top of the list is Dr. Tiede, Mr. Windsor, and Mrs. Liles for their administrative support of our program; our AD Mr. Dvorak; transportation coordinator Mrs. Mazurek; Pete, Jim, Rob and Mike from our custodial staff; game officials Mrs. Bretl, Mrs. Wilson, and Mrs. Wrzesinski; our Boys managers Brett A., Povilas G., Kevin R., and Krissy D.;.............AND most importantly our great parent fans who followed us the entire season!!!

Enjoy your Spring seasons, and always remember to "PLAY HARD"!!

SUPER BOWL WEEK!!!!!!!!!

As we start one of the biggest weeks in the year for a sporting event, I would like to congratulate our Boys Varsity basketball squad on their thrilling 26-25 come-from-behind win over Old Quarry.

After trailing throughout the game, our Spartans outscored the Warriors 14-0 in the fourth quarter to pull out the victory. Despite posting only two seasonal wins up to that point, a tenacious defense changed the flow of the game. In addition, our "Spartan Fanatics" helped energize our squad throughout the fourth quarter.

Both Boys and Girls Varsity squads return to action this week, as the Boys travel to Eisenhower on Tuesday (1/29), while the Girls host the Generals on the same day. Good Luck to Mr. Little, Coach Kukulski and the Girls as their season continues.

Our P.E. classes continue to do a fine job with basketball and weight training, and eagerly await weather conditions conducive to cross-country skiing.

Good luck to all the Patriot and Giant fans as they enjoy the biggest football week of the year.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, St. Louis Cardinals pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training in 18 days; 3 hours; 20 minutes.

Have a Great Week!!!!!!!!!!!
